President Nechirvan Barzani meets with the Ambassador of the United States

President Nechirvan Barzani received the Ambassador of the United States to Iraq, Ms. Alina Romanowski, in Erbil on December 14.

The meeting focused on President Nechirvan Barzani’s latest visit to Baghdad and his meetings with high Iraqi officials. Discussions also covered the agenda of the Iraqi federal government, strengthening relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and solving the problems between the two sides on the bases of the constitution and the federal system; and also continuing the visits and discussions between Erbil and Baghdad to reach mutual agreements were discussed.

Both sides emphasized the mutual cooperation among Erbil, Baghdad and the political parties of the country, and agreed on the importance of supporting the Prime Minister and the new cabinet of the federal government of Iraq. They highlighted the current opportunity to solve the problems in Iraq and implement the government’s agenda, emphasizing the importance of implementing the agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq to restabilize the situation in Shingal and facilitate the safe return of the refugees to their home areas.

President Nechirvan Barzani reiterated the importance of mutual understanding and vision on governance, and on managing Iraq’s finances in a way that provide better services for the citizens of Iraq, and becoming the source of peace, stability, and the protection of the sovereignty of the country.

Discussions also covered the importance of protecting the security of the borders and the mutual cooperation of Erbil and Baghdad on this issue. Diversification of energy sources, encouraging foreign capital and production in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the process of reformation of the Peshmerga forces and their issues, the relations of Iraq with the neighboring countries and the wider region were also highlighted.
