In an interview with the Newspaper NZZ from 23 May the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Masoud Barzani, spoke about current issues concerning the Region. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Sykes-Picot Agreement, Barzani stressed the need to restructure the Middle East, whereby the Kurdistan Region of Iraq deserves its own state. Regarding the situation in the Kurdish regions of Turkey and Syria, Barzani criticized the respective Kurdish leadership. Relating to an offensive on the city of Mosul, Barzani stated that the Peshmerga were ready and prepared and that the fight against IS was the top priority. However, he also stressed that a clear plan for how the city will be administered after the offensive is of major importance.
