On July 10, 2019, Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, met with the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron. This was an occasion for a fruitful exchange of information and opinions. President Barzani briefed his French counterpart about the current security situation in the Region, the humanitarian situation and the latest developments regarding the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad. On this specific topic, President Barzani thanked President Macron for the continued support of the French Republic toward the Kurdistan Region, which was instrumental in the resumption of peaceful dialogue between the KRG and the Iraqi central government.
On his side, President Macron commended the Kurdistan Regional Government for assuming the responsibilty of welcoming millions of IDPs and refugees and to remain a bastion of ethnic and religious tolerance.
